Utah Track and Field Athlete Lauren McCluskey Dies Following ShootingPublished by
Vigil on Utah campus scheduled Wednesday for Pullman High graduate, former state high jump champion By Erik Boal, DyeStat Editor University of Utah senior high jumper and multi-event athlete Lauren McCluskey was found dead Monday night in a parked car near a residential hall on campus. She was 21.
McCluskey, a Washington state high jump champion at Pullman High, was abducted, shot and killed by ex-boyfriend Melvin Rowland, 37, who later killed himself at a nearby church following a police pursuit. Classes were canceled on the Utah campus Tuesday and a vigil was scheduled for 5 p.m. Wednesday at the school’s Park Building. We extend our deepest sympathies to those who knew and loved her.
